This is the revolution, and YOU are at the very heart of it. With the growth of the modern cosmetics industry, mass and social media has had an ever-present influence on our perceptions of beauty and the self. And for the longest time, these influences were perceived to be a negative and destructive force.
Today, that is changing.
Mass media is merely a tool that amplifies outreach to customers, while social media functions as a platform for us to create and share. Time and time again, we witness instances of the new generation – our generation – mastering social media to stand for personal beliefs, social causes and to make changes. We champion individual beauty, self-love, self-acceptance and happiness.
These movements have made waves in the media industry, where beauty is no longer tied to a certain Hollywood definition. Colbie Caillat puts it beautifully in her new single, Try, where women of all sizes, ages and ethnicities are featured being confident, comfortable and happy in their own skin, without make-up or digital touch-ups. Her lyrics celebrate internal over external validation – the fact that we can and should live beyond superficial appearances and social expectations.
After all, the choice to be happy and to love yourself starts from within. The media has already come such a long way in terms of seeing the value of individual beauty and the ills of propagating a ‘conventional’ image of beauty. However, there is still so much to be done. Our generation is the future, and we are the revolutionaries. The world is now in our hands, so we ought to shape the world that we want to live in.
XOXO,
Team Made Real
